Performing Arts High School - Course Info
The ACPA Academy is a full-time pre-professional program for elite students in years 10 to 12 who are looking for a career pathway in performing arts as well as a commitment to completing their SACE studies.
This intensive program sees students training approximately 18 hrs per week with our Full-time course students in subjects such as Music Theatre, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical, Ballet, Choreography, Acting, Audition Techniques, & more.
Students enrolled in the ACPA Academy undertake their academic subjects at Thebarton Senior College in a specialised integrated program. The benefit of an integrated program is that subjects that have similar assessment criteria can be combined in order to reduce work load, focus on specific outcomes whilst tailoring the learning to the needs and interests of each individual.
Thebarton Senior College is located 10 minutes from our facility via public or private transport. Our Academy is the training ground for refining skills, identifying strengths and finding solutions to improve weaknesses. It offers students the opportunity and confidence they need to reach their potential and exceed all expectations preparing them for the next step which is our Certificate III and IV in Dance.
Students train in our state of the art facility under the guidance of our world class teaching faculty lecturers and mentors who will nurture your development to becoming a professional in this industry.
THEBARTON SENIOR COLLEGE is a specialist senior secondary school funded by the SA Government, located just four kilometres west of the city.
The college offers quality South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) certificate courses. Thebarton Senior College is also a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), accredited to deliver nationally recognised VET qualifications.
SPECIAL INTEREST ACADEMY
The Thebarton Senior College Special Interest Academy enables students to complete SACE and/or VET qualifications at the same time as pursuing their own passions, interests and commitments in singing, dancing and acting at The Australian Company of Performing Arts, ACPA.
Students will be supported to complete the SACE compulsory subjects and depending on their other training and/or courses, select from a broad range of curriculum offerings. Extra SACE credits will be accredited through recognition of Community Learning demonstrated through their special interest involvement and VET qualifications.
SPECIAL INTEREST ACADEMY CURRICULUM
Curriculum delivery will be flexible and include online components. Typically:
- SACE Stage 1 students will study the compulsory requirements (Literacy, Numeracy and Personal Learning Plan) and other subjects related to their area of special interest.
- SACE Stage 2 students will study Research Project and Workplace Practices or Cross-disciplinary Studies, plus other subjects related to their area of special interest.
- The number of subjects students will undertake will depend upon their special interest commitments, VET credits, recognition of Community Learning and future aspirations.

As well as numerous Interstate and International Guest Teachers throughout the year.
Acceptance into our Academy is via audition only.
Students in years 10, 11 and 12 are eligible to enrol.
All applicants must show evidence of previous dance training in a minimum of two genres and potential in singing and acting.
Applicants may audition for the ACPA Academy via a private audition or online video submission.
Private auditions include:
- Delivery of pre-prepared
- 3 x 1-minute solo’s in genres of your own choice
- A solo song with backing track
- Participation in an interview with the panel and Thebarton Senior College.
Private auditions are to be arranged through contacting the Australian Company of Performing Arts. To audition via online submission, applicants must include:
- 3 x 1-minute solos showcasing genres of your choice
- Solo song with a backing track
- A one to two minute recording communicating why you want to attend the Academy, your career goals and details on relevant experience and interests.
Students will develop technique skills in a variety of different genres such as:
- Musical Theatre
Training in the following areas are also include:
- Vocal technique
- Pilates and conditioning
- Acting technique
- Audition and performance techniques
- Nutrition and fitness
- Stage craft
Each area of study allows for the student to build resilience and the knowledge required to help set them up for their future career in the performing arts
The High School Performing Arts ACPA Academy is offered at $7000.
The cost is $1625 per term plus a $500 non-refundable deposit required upon acceptance to the program.
